Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur has designed a course in microbotics, or micro-robotics to deal with tiny robots capable of handling very small components. The main objective of the course is to strengthen research collaborations between Indian and foreign institutes as part of the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN). However, Robotics is already being taught in various engineering streams, such as mechanical engineering, ocean engineering and materials science. IT-Kharagpur is planning to build a course in robotics, including microbotics with commercial applications. And sixty students from IIT-Kharagpur and other colleges have already registered for the course.
